Movie Review: Happy Feet
Oh, where do I begin to describe the cuteness of this movie?
We went last night with friends Lee and Kari. Kari's only been previewing this film for about 9 months. She kept showing me the trailers online. I expected the movie to be adorable and I was right, but I did not expect to sit there literally smiling for almost the entire movie (except during the meant-to-be-scary parts). And laughing. And dancing in my seat. And mouthing along to some favorite songs. And squealing at the cuteness. And squealing at the penguins.
Voices were provided by Nicole Kidman, Robin Williams, Hugh Jackman and Brittany Murphy. The cutest, CUTEST voice was of baby Mumble, done by E.G. Daily who is apparantly a child actor. Never heard of him but oh the voice just totally did the character justice.
"What's wrong with your feet, son?"
"I don't know Pa, they're just happy."
Oh I cannot stop about this movie, I freaking loved it!
CNN apparantly reported that they thought parts of the movie had strong sexual innuendos. I think that's just silly. Mind you, I don't have children and watch whatever I want without specifically seeking out any possible sexual or violent undertones. I think they may have gotten the "sexual" part from the Elvis and artist-formerly-known-as-Prince songs that were used in the movie.
At any rate, I give the movie two full hands way up in the air, and several taps of the toes. I'd love to buy it on DVD and I would LOVE the soundtrack.
Sidenote: if you haven't seen March Of The Penguins, it is a documentary that I strongly recommend. Yes, parts of it are completely heart-wrenching and yes, you will probably cry. But it's a very enlightening look into the lives of penguins, which I think most people really underestimate. The lengths they go to for food, to reproduce and protect their future... It's the best documentary I have seen in my life so far.
Now that I've done everything penguinly possible to get you interested, go see those movies!
